Some Titans players arrive at their game Sunday against the Eagles looking ridiculous

Let’s stipulate that fashion sense and what looks good or bad is subjective. Well, Tennessee Titans players are pushing the envelope on that before their game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Because some of them are showing up to the game looking like clowns.

(Yeah, we get a subjective opinion, too).

Sane people’s Exhibit 1 on this front is backup running back Julius Chestnut.

The special teams contributor showed up to the game in some Green Goblin Halloween looking outfit, complete with neon green mask and a purple-ish cape.

Yeah, definitely different. Definitely attention-grabbing.

But Cool?

Funny?

Professional?

Definitely not professional. Derrick Henry is going into the Hall of Fame some day and will go down as perhaps the franchise’s greatest player while it played in Tennessee.

He didn’t show up to any games looking like this.

But Chestnut, a special teams player and third-stringer at running back, does the look-at-me thing pregame.

His teammate Alontae Taylor showed up to the game wearing a black and white Louis Vuitton scarf over a black baseball cap over his head.

Louis Vuitton is a thing for many athletes. It’s expensive and makes a statement.

But the statement Taylor seemed to be making from the look of him is he’s channeling Little Red Riding Hood without the red.

Cam Ward poses

And, we get it, some folks are going to love the personality showing through. Some people will defend a man’s attempt to be, well, different.

But the other side to this is these guys are making statements while showing up for work. For work. This is not on a night out on Broadway.

And they definitely are not reading the room.

That’s because the Titans are a pretty bad team. They started the season with a 23-10 loss to the Jets. The quarterback Cam Ward is under fire for not playing well. There are already questions about new coach Robert Saleh because he just lost to his old team that fired him.

And in that environment, these guys are showing up to the game looking kind of ridiculous. Again, one person’s opinion.

Correction: Not one person’s opinion.

When the outfits hit social media Sunday morning, many Titans fans cringed. Some reactions:

“Man, I’m starting to hate our team fr.”

“These dudes putting more effort into their pregame fits than the on field product… it sucks feeling that we as fans care more than the players at times. Idk man.”

“We about to get smoked.”

The Titans better perform against the Eagles. If they don’t, there may be fair questions about whether players are fully focused on doing their jobs or are spending more time than is wise on pre-game outfits.

That alone makes the decision to wear this stuff wrong.

If you’re pregame outfit can be used against the team as proof there’s not enough attention to detail or the game plan, the decision to wear the attention-seeking outfit was wrong.

If players are spending extra time on dumb stuff like picking out these outifts, and they obviously are, then the outfit thing is probably the wrong thing to do.
