Five weeks into the season and fresh off an embarrassing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys are already breaking out the oldest crisis gimmick in football: the defensive players-only meeting.
Sitting at 2-3 and watching their defense get pushed around on a weekly basis, the entire unit gathered behind closed doors on Monday morning to air out their issues.

Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown described the session as a blunt “heart-to-heart.”

“Looking ourselves in the mirror,” Overshown said.
“Putting what we wanted our standard to be, we put that on the board. We went by bullet point, bullet point. Are we holding up to this? Are we being this? As a unit, how can we get closer? What is it? Just hearing from all of us. It really wasn’t like a fire drill conversation, it was more so, ‘What can I do to help you? What do I expect from you on Sundays, or every Monday walk throughs?’ We’ve got to talk to each other like that because the ship is only going to go as far as the weakest person on the boat. As long as we all in this together, I think we’re going to be great. I know we’re going to be there.”

Writing bullet points on a dry-erase board is cute, but it does not erase what happened against Tampa Bay.
Dallas got thoroughly embarrassed at home by a winless Buccaneers squad, surrendering 241 rushing yards and making an 0-4 offense look explosive.

The Cowboys surrendered 419 total yards, blew basic run fits, and failed to force a single takeaway. Through five weeks, Dallas has surrendered at least 375 yards every game. Management is now scrambling to stop the bleeding before a tough road trip to Green Bay.

Defensive coordinator Christian Parker is moving upstairs to the coaching booth, and longtime NFL coach Mike Pettine was hired as a senior assistant to provide adult supervision.
Meanwhile, Dallas hopes Overshown’s return from a four-game hamstring injury adds badly needed speed.
Whiteboard therapy is fine, but unless this group starts tackling someone, the Cowboys’ season is officially cooked.
