Introducing OutKick's first original animated series, 'Sports Talk with Cal McCallister'

A lot of really exciting stuff has been happening here at OutKick over the last few weeks.

We’ve got Craig Carton coming on board with a show, and a bunch of new features like OutKick Outdoors, OutKick Dropkick, and OutKick University getting up and running and hitting their stride.

So it’s a great time to introduce you to OutKick’s first original animated series, “Sports Talk with Cal McCallister.”

Take a look at the trailer (which features narration from the great Dan Dakich):

We’ve got a batch of animated shorts that you’ll be able to see over the next couple of months, featuring Cal McCallister, a radio legend and doddering old curmudgeon with decades of experience on the airwaves.

He has plenty of hot takes to dish out, but winds up spending most of his time mixing it up with his callers and trying to keep his show on the rails with the help of his producer/grandson, Jody.

The first of these will debut Wednesday on the OutKick YouTube channel and on social media.

Yes, like tomorrow. That Wednesday.

There will be eight of these episodes, and I’m proud to say that each one was made the old-fashioned way: me sitting at my desk, drawing on my wife’s old iPad that I commandeered (with her permission).

See? Just the way Tex Avery used to do it… Don’t fact-check that.

Countless hours since last December were spent writing scripts, doing voices, writing and composing pieces of original music, editing, and, of course, animating.

While I was a one-man shorts-producing operation (albeit a very smart and handsome one), I couldn’t truly get the job done alone. I got some big help behind the scenes to get this all ready for release, and you’ll also hear some familiar OutKick voices.

I hope you enjoy watching them as much as we did making them.
