Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton tells Macklemore he is ‘standing’ in solidarity with him on Palestine

Winston Marshall exposes music industry double standards in Macklemore cancellation

Former ‘Mumford & Sons’ member Winston Marshall comments on the fallout from Ed Sheeran’s tour following Macklemore’s anti-Israel remarks on stage. He criticizes the music industry’s selective outrage over free speech and highlights his own experience with cancellation. He argues that while Macklemore’s views were well known, free speech principles must be defended.

Pop star Macklemore has generated quite a buzz recently with his “Free Palestine” messaging while on Ed Sheeran’s “Loop Tour.”

The 43-year-old musician was kicked off the tour following backlash from his pro-Palestine stance, but there have been a few “woke” celebrities who have come to Macklemore’s defense.

Following the Seattle native’s pledge to donate $1 million to Palestinian aid organizations, children’s YouTube star Ms. Rachel said she would match his donation and urged “every wealthy White celebrity” to do the same.

Ms. Rachel isn’t the only one to throw her public support behind Macklemore, though, as Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton took to social media to praise the rapper for his stance.

Hamilton commented under Macklemore’s Instagram statement on the matter, pledging to “stand” in solidarity with him.

If you know anything about Hamilton, then this shouldn’t come as a shock.

The 41-year-old was at the forefront of the Black Lives Matter movement, especially when it reached a fever pitch following the death of George Floyd in 2020.

Hamilton took part in the protesting of the U.S. National Anthem, kneeling during its playing before every Grand Prix event he entered in that same year.

He’s been spotted wearing shirts supporting causes linked to Black Lives Matter quite often and has also been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ issues.

Between those incidents and his past comments about Formula One’s lack of diversity – Hamilton is mixed-race and is the only Black driver in the sport – it’s easy to see why he was so quick to jump on the bandwagon to support Macklemore for his pro-Palestine stance.

As others continue to excoriate the rapper for his “Free Palestine” messaging, such as Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, you can expect many more on the other side of the aisle to voice their support for him.

It’s an issue that has been around for a long time, and it certainly isn’t going away any time soon.
