One of my favorite things about college football as the season goes on is that we get it on multiple days. Right now, it is pretty much only on Friday and Saturday. However, as the season gets further into it, we see games on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and the NFL fills in the rest. I’m excited to see what happens tonight, as there is a Friday game between two top teams as Houston takes on Texas Tech.

The Houston Cougars come into tonight’s contest with a 2-0 record and a ranking of 22nd in the nation. They are one of those teams that are good, but probably not quite good enough to make the college football playoffs. My guess is that they end up with some sort of solid Bowl Game. Before they get there, they have a long way to go. The team has had two games so far, with the first against Oregon State, which is a decent but not great team. Last week’s game was against the Southern Jaguars.

Houston has been impressive on the gridiron offensively. Their quarterback, Conner Weigman, has looked great in his first couple of games, throwing for 425 yards and four touchdowns. He does have one interception. They also have gotten quite a bit of production from their two primary running backs, Makhi Hughes and Reshaun Sanford. They have combined for 242 yards and four touchdowns over 40 rushing attempts.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are one of those clubs that is borderline for the College Football Playoff race. They will need some big wins in order to get into the race officially. As of right now, the team is 2-0 and currently ranked 13th in the nation. They faced Abilene Christian in their first game of the season and won 33-10. In the next game, they took down Oregon State. That was a closer game, but still a comfortable win for the Red Raiders, winning 35-24.

It isn’t often that you get to see two teams with a common opponent this early in the season. It does give us a little bit of insight to review, but not a ton. In Texas Tech’s two games, they’ve been able to attack both via the air and on the ground, but their offense has been a bit more balanced than their opponent. Texas Tech has 62 passing attempts vs. 86 rushing attempts. They have racked up 495 passing yards compared to 328 rushing yards.

TEXAS TECH HEAD COACH BLASTS USC, LINCOLN RILEY, FOR POOR ATTENDANCE AT LA COLISEUM IN WEEK ZERO
In the Oregon State games, Houston scored 33 and allowed 20. Texas Tech scored 35 and allowed 24 points. This puts both of those totals at 53 and 59. I am looking at the games and how they’ve been played and think the offenses are a bit ahead of the defenses for both squads. I like both quarterbacks in this game. I also think the running games should find their way to make an impact. Give me the over 53.5 for this one.
