An audience at a taping of Oprah Winfrey’s podcast on Thursday applauded a call to support women ike Lindsay Clancy who don’t have “her privilege” after Clancy’s murder trial ended in a mistrial.

Winfrey’s show took place in the wake of Clancy’s trial after she admitted to strangling her three children in 2023.

Last week, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy was criminally responsible for killing her children. Her defense argued that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

Winfrey’s guests included Dr. Kameelah Phillips, an OB-GYN, who discussed concerns over postpartum psychosis based on how little is known about it. Phillips also encouraged the audience to have compassion not just for Clancy but for “women of color.”

“And the other thing that I would just be remiss to not say is…I hope this never happens,” Phillips said. “We know statistically it really will.”

“It will,” Winfrey replied.

“I want us to have the same passion for people who don’t look like Lindsay, who don’t have her same access,” Phillips said.

After the audience clapped at her response, Phillips continued, “Who don’t have her same access and education, her melanin, her privilege. There are women of color sitting around this country in prisons for this same thing that we’ve never heard of. And I just want to remind us to have the pink shirts and the energy for them as well.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Winfrey’s representatives and Phillips for comment.

During the trial, Clancy received the support of hundreds of people outside the courthouse, which drew criticism from some commentators.

“We don’t see any of them standing out there with a button with the three children’s faces on them. When you listen to interviews with all of the women who are standing out, they almost never mention the three child victims,” conservative columnist and mother of six Bethany Mandel told Fox News Digital.

Dr. Phil McGraw also told “Fox News Live” on Saturday that he was concerned that mental illness in this case has become “kind of a political, ideological football that’s used to try to skew something or is kind of debunked by another side rather than looking at what actually took place.”

“I think people underestimate the power of psychosis in taking over someone’s life. It’s not an excuse, but, for example, if she had a brain tumor you could see on an X-ray, people would go ‘OK, I get that.’ And when you have what took place here, it could be just as powerful as someone whose brain is hijacked by a tumor,” McGraw said.

“I’m not excusing what she did in any way,” he said. “I think she should be held fully accountable, but I think we need to understand causation.”
