Over the hump and safely on the other side! We’ve got football tonight. We’ve got more playoff baseball. We’ve got a Yankees-less October to look forward to now!
What a time to be alive. If we could only get the Dodgers outta here, it would be perfect.

Give me White Sox-Brewers for all the marbles, just like God intended!
On that note, welcome to a Thursday Nightcaps — the one where Lindsey Vonn works up a sweat as she gears up for a big birthday bash.

Happy early 42nd birthday, Lindsey!

What else? I’ve got Jazz Chisholm confused as to why he was booed last night, Ronald Acuna NOT confused as to why he was booed, and Tony Romo’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad stretch continued last weekend at a Korn Ferry qualifier.
TONY ROMO HIT WITH SEVERAL NEW CITATIONS AFTER OWI ARREST, FURTHER JEOPARDIZING RETURN TO NFL BROADCASTS
Poor Tony got the two most feared letters in the alphabet scribbled on his scorecard after the final round. You’ll see.
OK, grab you a big ‘ol drink, pour it out for the Yankees, and then settle in for a Thursday ‘Cap!
Lindsey Vonn is ready for the big 4-2!
Let’s go ahead and get on with the big story of the day on this second Thursday of October …
Was that Anthony Volpe home run … a home run?
I say no, it was not. The first replay is deceiving, but the second one from the side makes it pretty clear. I think the umps got it 100% right.
“But statcast said it would’ve been a home run, Zach!”

Yeah, well my eyes said it wouldn’t have been a home run, and I’m still taking actual humans over the robots in 2026. Maybe not in 2027, but certainly in 2026.
And by the way, for those too young to remember … last night was a makeup call from the Baseball Gods 30 years (!!!) in the making:
Yeah, I don’t want to hear it, Yankees fans. You were always living on borrowed time after that.
Now that we’ve got that outta the way, let’s go ahead and get this class started with Lindsey Vonn gearing up for her 42nd birthday:
Not very Jazzy
“I guess this means summer is over….but it also means my birthday is coming up soon,” Vonn wrote before dumping out a flurry of Instagram content from this past summer.
Amen, Lindsey! What a year for OutKick’s favorite Olympian. Scrambled her leg back in February, had everything patched up, and now she’s on the comeback tour as we close in on Halloween.
I would expect nothing less. She’s a champion. If I’m buying stock in 2027, it’s gonna be in Lindsey Vonn. I think she’s got more in the tank.
I can’t wait to find out.
Moving on …
Let’s head BACK to Yankee Stadium and check in with Jazz Chisholm after last night’s dud in New York.
Jazz, for those who missed it, was confused as to why Yankees fans booed the hell out of him after grounding out in the bottom of the ninth.
Seems like a real head-scratcher to me!
Acuna, Romo & celebrations
“It doesn’t hurt. It’s just confusing because it’s the playoffs and we’re trying to win games. So you’re booing a guy that’s playing trying to help the team win.”
Hey, Jazz — if you don’t wanna be booed, maybe head back down to Miami! I despise the Yankees, but I can absolutely understand why the fans booed you for swinging at a 1-0 pitch, after five straight balls, with the tying run on first in the final inning.
You can’t figure out why they booed you for that? Really? Come on.
Now, I’m not the biggest Ronald Acuna fan after these playoffs, either, but goodness, just look at how HE responded to being booed last night:
I thought Acuna looked checked out the entire postseason. Believe me, I’ve watched every Braves game because the First Lady is a Braves fan. He looked disinterested from the jump.
But at least he owned it after another horrible game last night. Take notes, Jazz!
OK, let’s rapid-fire this Thursday class into a big Thursday night. First up? Might as well stay on the diamond and check in with the NLDS champion Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers!
I’ve noticed this a bunch in sports over the past few years … the celebrations seem far more toned down than I can ever remember.
Fair or foul?
Obviously, everyone is gonna pick on the Dodgers here because they’re low-hanging fruit, but the Brewers were just as guilty last night. Perhaps it’s the whole, “Act like you’ve been there before” mindset, which certainly applies to LA. They are quite literally there every year.

I was a little surprised at the Brewers, though. That was an intense series, and a hostile environment. I thought I’d see a little more out of them.
Oh well. Brew Crew in six!
Finally, on the way out, let’s check in with Tony Romo fresh off his … amicable departure … from CBS:
Hilarious story from a Korn Ferry pre-qualifier in Oklahoma.
Apparently, Tony Romo shaved two strokes off his final round scorecard. Inadvertently, of course.
He put himself down for pars on the 16th and 17th hole on his final back-nine, when his playing partner — a pro from Louisiana named Brandon Rice — had him at bogeys for both holes.
Rice told Monday Q Info earlier this week that he thought Romo made a 5 on his 16th hole, but Romo told him in scoring it actually was a 4, and that’s the score Romo signed for.
Romo’s group was also being monitored by a South Central PGA pro because it was “limping” to the finish, according to the unnamed pro. The same pro told GOLF.com that Romo had a three-putt bogey 5 on 16 and a three-putt bogey 5 on 17.
Not good!

Keller, a former All-American college golfer and a widely respected rules official, described a rushed scoring process and Romo signing Rice’s proffered card without carefully checking it,” GOLF.com wrote. “He suggested that Romo, between the slow-play warning hanging over the group, his inability to mount any sort of birdie run ‘and all that was going on with him’ was frustrated with how the day went.
“Keller said Romo took responsibility for the wrong card and was ‘very complimentary’ about the event and how it was run. Keller noted that Romo was not going to advance either way.”
Just an awful run of luck for Tony Romo right now. He gets dinged for a pesky OWI, loses his job at CBS, and then gets outed by some nark in Oklahoma.

Oh well. They say bad things come in threes, which means Tony is about to turn this thing around at the buzzer.
Stay tuned!
OK, that’s it for today. Good class. Long class. Let’s go have a big Thursday night of football, and get ready for a monster weekend.
Let’s end the day with MORE golf, this time in the form of Paige Spiranac and bunch of other influencers I don’t know and hope to never know.
See you Friday.
