Few lines have moved like this one. Baltimore opened as a field-goal favorite for Thursday Night Football, then lost two quarterbacks in one afternoon, and now Jacksonville is laying close to 10 points on the road. How Baltimore Got Here
Sunday in Buffalo was a disaster. Lamar Jackson jammed his right thumb on the Ravens’ first offensive snap and is now on injured reserve after surgery. Tyler Huntley went down later with a turf toe injury that’s reportedly season-ending, and Skylar Thompson was already on IR. Baltimore lost 36-10, its third straight defeat, and fell to 4-4.
That leaves Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie with a sore ankle, as the likely starter. In relief against the Bills, he went 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception and a lost fumble.
Why Jacksonville Is Favored
The Jaguars have become one of the AFC’s best teams. They’re 5-2, lead the AFC South and have the NFL’s best point differential at +85. Last week, they crushed the Colts 42-7. Trevor Lawrence has 17 touchdown passes and just four interceptions, and Jacksonville’s defense has been rolling. Against a rookie quarterback on a short week, it’s easy to see a blowout.
Why the Number Might Be Too Big
This is where the contrarian case comes in. Nine and a half points is a lot to lay on the road in a short-week game, and Thursday nights tend to be sloppy for everyone. Baltimore is still at home, still has a physical defense and still has every reason to shorten the game with the run. The Ravens are going to try to keep the score in the teens and make Jacksonville earn every point. The number is interesting. The fact that it’s not closer to a three possession line could be telling.
History also isn’t as lopsided as the line. Jacksonville leads the all-time series 13-11, but Baltimore has won three of the last five meetings. Big moves like this one tend to attract one-sided public money, and that’s often where the value flips to the other side.
The Pick: Ravens +9.5
Everyone knows the Ravens are in trouble at quarterback, and that’s exactly why this line has jumped more than 12 points. The Jaguars should win, but a slow, run-heavy game plan from Baltimore makes a double-digit margin harder to reach than it looks. Take the points and fade the overreaction. Better yet, your $350 in FanCash arrives either way.
