While new teams in Toronto and Portland are set to enter the league in 2026.
WNBA bosses want to expand the league to 16 teams in time for the 2028 season.

And Detroit has emerged as a contender to fill the vacant spot.
Their bid is led by Pistons owner Tom Gores and also includes seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill and Lions owner Sheila Ford.
Per TMZ, Eminem has entered talks to join the bid.
Detroit’s bid is set to face plenty of competition.
As many as eight other markets have reportedly expressed an interest.
Kevin Durant, who named Angel Reese as his favorite female athlete, recently threw his weight behind Austin’s bid.
While Jayson Tatum wants to bring WNBA hoops to his hometown St. Louis.
Philadelphia, Cleveland, Houston, Nashville and Charlotte have all entered bids.
As has Kansas City, with Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes behind the project.
“Obviously, we want to get basketball in Kansas City in general,” the quarterback, 29, said last year.
“You talk about the University of Kansas basketball, the Chiefs, whatever it is, the city is going to come out to the stadium.
“It’s cool we were able to get the women’s soccer team here and you see the support they have.”
The new WNBA season is set to begin on May 16.
On opening night, the Valkyries will play their first ever game as they host Kelsey Plum’s Los Angeles Sparks.
Opening weekend will also see Caitlin Clark and rival Reese match up as the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky match up.
The reigning champion New York Liberty will begin their title defence against previous winners the Las Vegas Aces.
