Vintage Bugatti up for sale for just $35,000 – but drivers will be surprised by dashboard feature

A BUGATTI can be bought for a bargain price with a surprising feature to be found on the dashboard.

A gorgeous, vintage-looking racer is hitting the market for a surprisingly low price of £27,000 – or, roughly, $35,000 – but only because it’s tiny and features a top speed of just 45 mph.

Called the Baby II model, the pint-sized set of wheels is set to be released by the luxury car manufacturer to celebrate one of their most iconic race cars – the Type 35.

Built to honor the race car’s 100th anniversary, the French marque has released a three-quarter-scale version, powered by electricity with a 45mph top speed.

Finished in a striking ‘Nocturne’ black and ‘Giallo Midas’ yellow, the color scheme was reportedly a favourite of the company’s creator, Ettore Bugatti.

The interior of the vehicle is completed in a luxury black leather cured by ‘Bridge of Weir’.

Perhaps the most surprising feature of all is the hand-drawn sketches etched onto the body panels.

These sketches depict key moments and figures from Bugatti’s history, including Ettore and Jean Bugatti – the brand’s father and son founders.

Finished with a fine layer of clear-coat, these illustrations are permanently preserved on the Baby II – meaning it’s a true work of art on wheels.

Created by Hedley Studios, based in Bicester, England, along with Bugatti and Jascha Straub, the car is one-of-one – so naturally will be highly sought after by collectors.

Speaking to Luxury Auto News, Ben Hedley, founder and CEO of Hedley Studios, said: “Since 2019, we have been collaborating with Bugatti to create wonderfully unique pieces of automotive art.

“And this partnership with Bugatti and its Managing Designer for Sur Mesure and Individualisation projects, Jascha Straub – one of Bugatti’s most knowledgeable, talented, and creative minds – has seen the Bugatti Baby II reimagined in a way that commemorates the heritage of the marque.

“It’s been a pleasure for the Hedley Studios team to work with Bugatti and Jascha throughout this creative process.

“Combining the engineering and technical skills of our team of experts with his inimitable artistic style, encyclopaedic knowledge, and deep connection with the Bugatti brand.”

Jascha Straub, manager for Sur Mesure and Individualisation at Bugatti, added: “It has been a wonderful experience collaborating with the Hedley Studios team once more.

“Moving from the remarkable commission inspired by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’, to create another truly unique example of the Bugatti Baby II.

“Throughout the process of conceptualising the design, sketching directly on the car, it was clear that the Bugatti Baby II is a carefully and meticulously crafted piece of engineering, forming a brilliant canvas for a one-of-one piece of art.

“Maintaining and celebrating the heritage of the brand, and its founder, was a major consideration for both the Hedley Studios team and I throughout the process – exploring the fascinating influences that have become an integral part of Bugatti’s story.

“Bringing this to life took time and collaboration, the result of which we are all very proud of.”

Five steps for restoring a car

Restoring a car can be a massive undertaking. Here’s a simpler way to think about the process as a whole:

  1. Plan
    • This includes setting a budget, preparing a work area, researching parts, and establishing a timeline to get the work done.
  2. Strip the vehicle
    • This involves disassembling the vehicle and assessing the condition of the parts being removed.
  3. Bodywork
    • This means stripping the paint and repairing any rust and dents, followed by repainting.
  4. Engine restoration
    • This involves restoring a car’s power – including engine repairs.
  5. Rebuild
    • After reassembling and detailing the car, all that’s left is to take it for a test drive.
