Illinois mother accused of murdering two-year-old son

A tragic child murder case in Illinois has prosecutors raising questions about a potential copycat link to the Lindsay Clancy trial. Corie Walsh is accused of murdering her two-year-old son Barrett in Frankfort, Illinois. Senior correspondent Mike Tobin reports on the disturbing details of the investigation, including the defendant’s alleged statements to police.

Corie Walsh, the woman who obsessed over the Lindsay Clancy case and allegedly killed her 2-year-old son, sang a rendition of a Wizard of Oz classic while being questioned by investigators, according to reports.

Walsh, 40, who allegedly told officers she killed her son because she believed he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ,” belted out “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” from the movie classic, according to court documents obtained by The Sun.

She is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the death of her son, Barrett Walsh, who was found hanging lifeless from a rafter in the basement of their suburban Chicago home.

The boy was discovered by his two siblings on Sept. 1 as they returned home from school. Upon arrival, responding police officers found a neighbor performing CPR on Barrett.

While speaking with detectives, Walsh reportedly went on an unhinged rant and singing her own version of “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.”

Walsh’s attorney, Andrea Lyon, said her client was “psychotic” and rejected any connection between her interest in the Clancy case and the alleged killing.

“She was psychotic. And this is not a first-degree murder,” Lyon told reporters.

Before the killing, Walsh had become “very invested” in the Clancy murder trial, which involved the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children.

She had discussed the case in text messages with her friends as recently as the morning she allegedly killed her son.
