Both games start at roughly the same time tonight, with first pitch scheduled for 8:00 ET and kickoff scheduled for 8:15 ET. Let’s talk a little bit about what each of these teams is looking for tonight in their games.
Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland is looking to extend the series. That’s their main, and really only, goal for the night. If they don’t do that, the series and season are over. Cleveland won three straight with their backs against the wall against Chicago, and now must do it again. They are 3-1 on the road in the postseason; can they make it to 3-3?
Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa is looking to close out the series. As much fun as Game 7 can be for us, players can’t possibly like playing in them. The Rays are up 3-2 in the series, but they want to get Freddy Peralta to end the series tonight. Anything could happen with a Game 7, so the Rays definitely want to avoid it.

Washington Commanders
The Commanders are just 1-3-1 for the season, and desperately need a win. The NFC East is not a very clean division right now, with no team looking all that impressive. The Eagles are struggling, the Cowboys look terrible, and the Giants don’t have a quarterback. Now would be a great time for the Commanders to take charge of the division.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are looking to get a win tonight so they can stay perfect. The team is 5-0 and the current favorite to win the Super Bowl. The team is missing pieces tonight, but they are very good at adapting to who is available.
