Four Free Picks, Four Games
The best way to use four free picks on a 14-game night is to spread them out. Here’s one player from each of the night’s top matchups.
Cade Cunningham points (higher) | 76ers at Pistons, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN
Cunningham has grown into a legitimate MVP candidate, and Wednesday’s rematch with Philadelphia gives him a national stage. Detroit has been without Jalen Duren, which puts even more of the scoring and playmaking load on Cunningham’s shoulders. When the Pistons need a bucket late, the ball is in his hands.
Tyrese Maxey points (higher) | 76ers at Pistons, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN
The other side of the same game. Maxey is one of the most explosive scorers in the league, and LeBron James’ arrival gives him a second creator who can draw attention away from him. A road game against a contender with something to prove after the Oct. 25 meeting should push Philadelphia’s pace up, and that’s good news for Maxey’s scoring line.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander points (higher) | Cavaliers at Thunder, 8:00 p.m. ET
Oklahoma City is down Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and Cason Wallace, which leaves the reigning MVP carrying even more than usual. The Thunder are only 2.5-point favorites at home, and the total sits at 228.5. In a game priced that tight, expect Gilgeous-Alexander to take over late against a Cavaliers backcourt led by James Harden and Donovan Mitchell.
Cooper Flagg points (higher) | Mavericks at Spurs, 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
The reigning Rookie of the Year is taking on a bigger role in Year 2, and closing the ESPN doubleheader in San Antonio is the kind of spotlight young stars tend to answer. Flagg will be matched up against one of the league’s best defensive frontcourts, but his usage keeps climbing, and that tends to show up in his scoring.
