You're juicing lemons wrong – you don't need to slice first

Whether cooking, or making a cocktail, sometimes we all have to juice a lemon.

After all, the zesty liquid can add an instant zing to all sorts of dishes and drinks. The only snag is squeezing all the liquid out can be a bit of a slog.

From getting it all over your hands, to potentially squirting some into your eye, it’s a simple task that can easily become a bit of a chore. But now, thanks to a clever hack, that’s all about to change.

The fact that you never knew this before will seriously blow your mind. According to todayyearsold on X, all you need is a toothpick (or something similar) to pull it off.

In the clip the man then demonstrates how to do the trick by inserting it into the bottom, or “butt”, of the lemon to make a hole. From here all you need to do is squeeze the lemon to allow all the juice to come out.

In the clip, he says: “You just squeeze it. What? Bro, way less mess. How crazy is this?”

The video has been viewed more than 300,000 times since it was shared, and it’s fair to say it’s left people pretty shocked. They can’t get over how simple it really is to juice a lemon.

And, moreover, how have some of us never picked up on this handy hint before? People said the trick “works great”, and also works for other citrus fruits like oranges and limes too.

Some people may never convert to the quirky hack, but it’s certainly got people talking. They just can’t get over how simple and mess-free the method is.

One person wrote: “Crazy life hack.” Another replied: “So that’s why lemon juice containers are designed like that.”

A third said: “Explains the design of the lemon juice bottle.” Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “When I was little, my dad would cut a hole in an orange and we would squeeze it, then suck the juice directly out of the orange. Same principle really.”

Some weren’t so convinced by the idea though, and weren’t keen on giving it a go. It seems some home cooks are pretty stuck in their ways.

One chimed in with: “That’s fine if you have the grip strength of a teenager who ‘walks the dog’ several times per day.” Another added: “Or just cut it in half and squeeze it like an adult.”
