You're eating sausage rolls wrong – etiquette expert shares common mistake

Sausage rolls are a staple British bakery treat, loved by both adults and children alike.

Picking up the warm, flaky treat in your hands and taking a bite feels like heaven, whether you bought it from Greggs or your local supermarket. But apparently, we’ve all been eating them wrong this whole time.

William Hanson, who is known for sharing his etiquette expertise on social media, has left fans divided after he claimed you don’t eat a sausage roll with your hands. In the video, which has gained more than 418,000 likes, influencer Joe Tasker was about to tuck in to the pastry favourite, holding it in his hands when the etiquette expert stopped him.

“We don’t pick up the sausage roll with our hands,” William warned, before showing him the ‘correct way’ to do it. He started out by placing a napkin over his lap, presumably to catch any crumbs.

Joe hilariously struggled with his as Hanson warned not to “flick it” or “you’ll take someone’s eye out”. Then, he proceeded to outrage Brits by telling them to eat a sausage roll with a knife and fork.

He explained: “We pick up the cutlery. We do not use our hands The fork is held in the non-dominant hand. The knife is held in our dominant hand. And then, from the edge, not from the middle, gently prise it apart.”

However, Tasker quickly gave up with his knife and fork, taking the chunk he had cut off in his fingers and shoving it into his mouth. TikTok users were left stunned by the clip as they took to the comments to give their opinions.

One user said: “I would be done before this guy even starts,” while another added: “Just let bro eat that.” A third commented: “This is awesome.”

Someone else wrote: “Sorry but there’s only one way to eat a sausage roll, and that’s half in bag half out and bite while walking thro town, while stood at bus stop or in car is also acceptable.”
