Wrong-way crash on N.J. parkway kills 2, injures 1

A wrong-way crash on a New Jersey parkway in the early hours of Friday killed two people and injured another, authorities said.

The incident happened just before 2:30 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway in Paramus, about 15 miles west of Manhattan.

The driver of a Honda sedan, 38-year-old Diana Cruz, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the parkway near Exit 163, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said, according to the Paramus Daily Voice.

The Honda then collided head-on with a Toyota SUV traveling south.

Cruz and the driver of the Toyota, 55-year-old Sunday Ogundare, both from Newark, died at the scene.

The passenger in the Toyota, a 20-year-old woman from  Pequannock Township, was rushed to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Several lanes of traffic were shut down during an initial investigation, when vehicles were allowed to drive on the shoulder to pass by the crash scene, News 12 New Jersey reported.

All lines had reopened by late Friday morning, according to northjersey.com.

The crash remains under investigation.
