The WoW Classic release will begin with a series of beta tests and server drills in May 2019. The full release for the service is in August 2019, but before that happens, Blizzard wants to check that things are working the way they should be.

The dev team have provided full details on how you join the WoW Classic beta and what it might take to have a limited run during several server drills.

The good news is that if you’re an ardent World of Warcraft fans, you have a better chance of joining in then less active community members. The bad news is that Blizzard isn’t offering a direct way that you can guarantee access to WoW Classic early.

WOW CLASSIC BETA SIGN UP

The release date for the WoW Classic beta has been set for tomorrow, May 15. As you might expect, the WoW Classic beta will be running exclusively on Battlenet, and you will need an active account.

From tomorrow, WoW players will start being invited by Blizzard to join the small-scale testing phase of the game. Players will also get a chance to help put our servers and technology through their paces in a series of stress tests running from May through July.

Fans who want to join the stress test phase can opt in now through Account Management and select the WoW Classic beta. And the good news is that subsequent stress tests will extend the opportunity to even more players.

However, when it comes to the WoW Classic beta going live tomorrow, it appears Blizzard will be hand picking who they want to join. So even if you opt-in for a chance of joining the fun, there’s no guarantee you will be selected.

But the most crucial thing WoW fans have to do today to have a chance is head to their Account Management page and update their beta preferences, as Classic is separate from the regular WoW beta settings.

“To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, we’ll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in,” a message from Blizzard confirms.

“Participants will also need to have an active subscription or active game time on their Battle.net Account.

“While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure you’re in the running to join the test it doesn’t guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test.

“We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community.”

A few other things to know about the WoW Classic release date set for August 2019: Access to WoW Classic is included in and available to all players with an active World of Warcraft subscription—no additional purchases will be required.

Ahead of the August 27 release date, character creation options will be going live earlier. This will happen on Tuesday, August 13 for players with an active subscription or game time on their account.

Active WoW gamers will be able to create up to three characters per World of Warcraft account.
