Woman buys cabinet from Facebook Marketplace – then is stunned when looking inside

A woman shared her surprise after finding a hidden treasure inside her most recent antique furniture purchase.

Amanda DeWitt from Texas, USA, made a TikTok video where she shared her most recent Facebook Marketplace purchase – a Louis XVI buffet cabinet.

Normally retailing for thousands of pounds, Amanda said she managed to get the antique piece of furniture for ‘one ninth of what it’s usually being sold for’.

“Obviously I bought it. I was finally able to get my hands on it this morning. It’s in my house, she’s absolutely stunning perfect,” she said while showing off the cabinet.

She explained how, when they first got the buffet into their home, she was opening up all of the different cabinets and drawers to varify the condition of the piece of furniture is as good as she expected it to be.

“Please look what I found when I unlocked on of the cabinets,” she said excitingly before turning the camera to the open cabinet which was filled with 13 bright orange Hermes boxes and one blue box from Tiffany’s.

“So this is a full set of Hermes China,” she explained as she took the boxes out of the cabinet. “You guys, a full set of China left in one of the cabinets of the buffet that I got on Facebook Marketplace.

“Not to mention all of these plates are in perfect condition. I think there’s 12 plates in total.”

She went on to show viewers the different plates, which all had the same golden pattern on them. She also found smaller dessert/salad plates. According to Hermes’ website, these plates are being sold for between £115-£375 per plate.

“I mean, beautiful. Literally what dreams are made of,” she said.

Amanda went on to say she wasn’t sure if the China had been left in the cabinet on purpose or by accident by the seller. Because of this, she did send them a message to the woman she bought the buffet from to let her known she found the China collection.

“All I know is I better have some good karma coming my way for telling her,” she told her viewers.

In a second video, she revealed the woman had wanted the China back. She wrote on the video: “It was fun while it lasted… but they did in fact ask to come pick up everything after I messaged them about my discovery lol.”

After posting her video, viewers were shocked at what Amanda had found, with many people revealing their own bargain stories.

“I bought a crate and barrel kitchen island from Facebook and found $1,200 cash in the drawer! Messaged the lady and she had no idea it was there,” one person wrote, to which another person replied: “I’ll never understand why people don’t check the drawers of things before selling them. I find it a bit audacious to ask for the items back. The plates probably made this way heavier to move as well.”

A third user wrote: “Eh, that’s sold as is. Seller should’ve checked everything first. But wasn’t the left side heavier when moving it?”

“I bought a China cabinet at an auction and opened it up to find tons of solid silver pieces. I tried to give it back to the owner but they were gone and the auctioneer didn’t have contact info,” another said.
