Woman accused of murdering ‘sugar daddy,’ cutting off his thumb to access payment app

A woman accused of murdering her alleged “sugar daddy” used his severed thumb to gain access to his mobile payment app and steal money from him, according to new court documents.

Fasil Teklemariam was found dead in his apartment in the Brightwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C., on April 5, Metropolitan Police said in a press release. He suffered multiple blunt-force fractures to his head, several lacerations and a stab wound. Authorities noted 53-year-old Teklemariam was also missing his right thumb.

So far, two women have been arrested in connection with his slaying. Police said Audrey Miller was taken into custody on June 17 and charged with first-degree murder and armed felony murder. On July 1, authorities announced that 22-year-old Tiffany Taylor Gray had also been arrested. She is facing the same charges as Miller.

They were among at least four people seen on surveillance footage entering Teklemariam’s apartment and carrying items out in the days before police found him dead, the Washington Post reported, citing charging documents. The group allegedly used his key fob to get inside and snatch “several” items, including electronics and watches.

An anonymous witness later told police that Gray and Teklemariam knew each other and referred to him as Gray’s “sugar daddy,” court records said. The tipster also alleged Gray and Miller were using Teklemariam’s severed thumb to unlock his electronics and steal his money.

Police have yet to locate the thumb and they still have not found the missing electronic devices.
