Wimbledon match halted due to medical emergency as players forced to stop play

Taylor Fritz’s quarter-final clash against Lorenzo Musetti at Wimbledon was temporarily halted due to a medical emergency in the crowd.

Reacting to the incident live on air, BBC commentator Nick Mullins said: “I think we might have a lady who is not feeling too well and she will need to be tended to understandably first.”

“The medics have come out, she looked in some distress half a minute or so ago.”

A delay of around four minutes ensued, with the crowd offering the person in question a warm round of applause when they returned to their feet.

Mullins continued: “The applause is for the lady and we hope she is back with us soon enough, but she’s back on her feet and is being led away by the medics to have a nice cold glass of water and a sit down in the shade.”

Despite the soggy conditions in recent days, the sun was shining in south London, with temperatures well into their 20s.

Things were heating up on the court prior to the short break in play too, with Fritz waltzing to a 36-minute opening set win.

The American took the opener against his Italian opponent 6-3, before the start of the second set was delayed because of the medical emergency.
