Wimbledon 2024 is here, with professional tennis players from all over the world descending on London in the hope of lifting the iconic cup. Fans can look forward to the return of brilliant white outfits, strawberries and cream and glasses of Pimms in the sunshine – and to seeing some of their favourite athletes.
Today, the first round of both gentlemen’s and ladies’ singles will be played, with the finals taking place on July 14. With fan favourites like Andy Murray, Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper all taking to the court, it should be a year to remember.
However, Wimbledon isn’t the only thing that has got people talking about tennis in the last few months. Just back in April, Luca Guadagnino’s thought-provoking film Challengers captured the imaginations of many UK cinema-goers. And Challengers isn’t the only tennis-focused film to make a splash in recent years.
Back in 2021, a film about tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams’ father, entitled King Richard, made headlines. While in 2015, HBO’s sports mockumentary 7 Days in Hell starring Andy Samberg became something of a cult classic.
