‘Will it make the field?’ – Shedeur Sanders suffers first major blow at Cleveland Browns after huge jersey decision

SHEDEUR Sanders will not wear his famous No2 jersey during training camp.

The quarterback, 23, was selected 144th by the Cleveland Browns in last week’s NFL Draft.

Despite starring at Colorado last year, Sanders shockingly slid to the fifth round, having been expected to go in the top 10.

The QB was finally taken by Cleveland, despite the Browns picking fellow quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round.

Sanders wore No2 throughout his high school and college career.

So when Cleveland confirmed their rookies’ jersey numbers for training camp yesterday, it came as a surprise that Sanders was not granted the No2 jersey.

Instead, he will wear No12 with his new team.

The number is a mirror of his father Deion’s famous No21 jersey.

Sanders’ usual No2 jersey has been taken by DeAndre Carter.

Carter, a nine-year NFL veteran, has never worn No2 in his entire career.

Seeing Sanders’ jersey number confirmed, several fans fumed on social media.

“12???” one commented.

“lol all you ordered custom Sanders #2 jerseys looking real dumb now,” a second joked.

“Yeah put Shedeur in that 2 like he deserves,” a third fumed.

“Man if they don’t stop playing wit my boy and give him that #2 ima slap somebody,” another raged.

Sanders’ jersey number could still change before the start of next season.

Cleveland’s announcement featured a disclaimer.

It read, “Numbers subject to change”.

ESPN draft expert Matt Miller recently attempted to explain Sanders’ incredible slide during a recent appearance on the Awful Announcing podcast.

Miller said, “I didn’t think that they handled the process well. And that’s not just hindsight.

“I took a lot of heat for saying on ‘NFL Live’ right before the NFL Scouting Combine that he was making a mistake. He should be throwing at the NFL Scouting Combine.

“He should have worked out at the East-West Shrine Game that he accepted an invite to.”
