If you’re thinking of buying a new PC game on Steam today, then don’t!
Unless the game in question is already on sale with a big discount, you’re better off waiting for the upcoming Steam Winter Sale.
One of the big annual events in the PC gaming calendar, the Steam Winter Sale kicks off at 6pm GMT UK time on December 19.
Unlike the recent Steam Autumn Sale, it runs for two whole weeks, which means you can make savings until January 2.
While Valve is yet to announce any of the discounts ahead of time, you can pretty much guarantee that even relatively new games like EA Sports FC 25 and Star Wars Outlaws will be given a discount.
Furthermore, Valve’s own games will almost certainly be available for next to nothing. Games like Portal and Left 4 Dead 2 are sometimes available for less than a quid.
Then there are titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Sony blockbusters such as God of War and Uncharted, which have recently been reduced to around £15.
There are usually lots of great Steam Deck Verified games on sale, which is perfect if you’re expecting to receive a Valve handheld for Christmas.
If it’s anything like the current Epic Games Store sale, then customers can also expect discounts on heavyweights like GTA 5 and Assassin’s Creed.
In fact, some discounts have started early. Steam customers can currently purchase Cyberpunk 2077 for just £22.49, DayZ for £19.99 and Helldivers 2 for £27.99.
Other games on offer include Red Dead Redemption 2 for £19.79, It Takes Two for just £6.99, and Warhammer Space Marine 2 for £43.99.
Hitman World of Assassination Part 1 is reduced to just £2.49. It contains all of the stages from the first game in the Hitman trilogy, including Sapienza, Paris and Bangkok. It even has the Patient Zero Campaign.
Despite launching very recently, Dragon Age The Veilguard is also discounted to £32.49, which represents a saving of 35%.
Likewise, Japanese role-playing game and contender for Game of the Year Metaphor Re-Fantazio is reduced to £44.99.
