Why we’re in their debt: Honoring America’s veterans



Unlike the other holidays that are always observed on Mondays (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day and Columbus Day) Nov. 11, regardless of the day of the week, is Veterans Day. Yes, there were a few years in the 1970s when Veterans Day was shifted to a Monday in late October, but what was lost to gain a three-day weekend was the connection marking the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
