Football fans based in the UK hoping to watch today’s Premier League match between Chelsea and Nottingham Forest will be very disappointed. The Blues have been on a remarkable winning streak recently, defeating Gent 4-2 in the Europa Conference League midweek, following a similar victory over Brighton in the league last weekend.
These victories have created a positive atmosphere around Stamford Bridge, and they’ll be aiming to maintain pressure on rivals Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City when they face Nottingham Forest at 2pm today. Forest have also had a promising start, with two wins, three draws and only one loss in their opening six games of the new season.
They’ve already shown their ability to defeat top teams with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, and Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping for a repeat performance this afternoon. With a tense top-tier clash scheduled for 2pm, many supporters would have hoped to watch the game from home – but unless they’re at the stadium, UK fans will have to make do with the highlights later tonight.
Why isn’t the Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest match being broadcast on TV in the UK?
While several Premier League matches weren’t aired yesterday due to the Premier League’s 3pm blackout – including Arsenal’s game against Southampton and Manchester City’s encounter with Fulham at the Etihad – there is no such restriction on Sundays.
Regrettably, Chelsea’s match against Nottingham Forest won’t be televised today as it hasn’t been picked by broadcasters. Instead, Sky Sports’ Super Sunday will feature two other high-profile games. Aston Villa will face Manchester United at 2pm, followed by Brighton vs Spurs at the Amex at 4.30pm.
In addition, TNT has chosen to broadcast India vs Bangladesh in the T20, and Saracens vs Exeter Chiefs in the Gallagher Premiership.
