Who killed Joe Tate in Emmerdale?

If Joe is really dead – and many fans don’t think he is – then it was Graham Foster who actually murdered him.

Cain thinks it was him after he knocked Joe to the ground with a punch, but when Graham bundled Joe into his car his fingers were moving which showed he was still alive. At that point.

But Joe – or Joe’s body – wasn’t seen again after that, only a distraught Graham crying his eyes out in his car.

He gave Joe £100k and told him to leave after Kim Tate had ordered his murder.

But he was forced to go through with killing him when Kim said that she’d ordered another hitman,

Vincent, to do the deed.

Cain Dingle thinks he murdered Joe

So why has Cain Dingle confessed to the murder?

A guilt ridden Cain has told his daughter Debbie – who was engaged to Joe – and his wife Moira that he killed him.

And it’s for the simple reason that he genuinely believes he did. Cain was livid when he thought Joe had jilted Debbie at the alter and – when he saw him trotting around Home Farm like he didn’t have a care in the world – fury took over and he lamped him one.

Joe hit the deck, managing to smack his head on a rock on the way down. Graham – who was also there – couldn’t feel a pulse and told Cain Joe was dead.

Graham then said he’d clean up the body, which is when we saw Joe’s fingers move.

No one apart from Graham – who was like a surrogate dad to Joe – knows what really happened to him.

Cain confessed his ‘crime’ to Debbie after watching her struggle with not knowing why her lover had disappeared or even if he was alive or dead.

Now Debbie has disowned Cain, refusing gran Faith Dingle’s attempts to get the family back together.

Debs has also told her daughter Sarah Sugden that it’s Cain’s fault Joe has left, but hasn’t revealed he killed him.
