Who is representing Team GB at the Olympics? Biggest names in Great Britain’s Paris squad

Team GB will be expected to be at the top end of the medal table at the Paris Olympics. After amassing 64, 67 and 65 medals at Tokyo 2020, Rio 2016 and London 2012 respectively, there are high hopes of continuing that momentum in the French capital.

There is certainly no shortage of star power in the team, with household names completing across of variety of sports, from tennis to athletics and gymnastics to diving. Ahead of the opening ceremony, Express Sport gives you the lowdown on some of the most famous faces in the squad…

Andy Murray

Arguably the most famous member of Team GB, the Olympic tournament will be his last in tennis. Murray, 37, will be desperate for a fitting finish to his storied career after being cruelly denied the swansong he craved at Wimbledon by injury. Like at SW19, he has confirmed he will only compete in the doubles, where he will partner Dan Evans.

Tom Daley

The four-time Olympic medallist, 30, made his Games debut in 2008 at the age of just 14 and has since become a stalwart of the Team GB diving line-up.

After claiming bronze in London and Rio, Daley finally ended his long wait for Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 with victory in the 10-metre synchro event alongside Matty Lee. The 30-year-old will now defend his crown in Paris with new partner Noah Williams.

Katrina Johnson-Thompson

The double-world champion heptathlon star is hoping to end her long wait for an Olympic medal at her fourth Summer Games. The Liverpool athlete, 31, finished third in last year’s Sports Personality of the Year and would be in the frame to win it if she can add Olympic gold to the world title she regained in Hungary 12 months ago.

Katie Boulter

Britain’s only female competitor in the women’s singles tennis tournament, Boulter, 27, will be hoping to build on a strong year which saw her reach a career-high 27 in the world rankings in March.

Dina Asher-Smith

The British record-holder secured her place in Team GB as she powered to victory in the women’s 200m at the UK Athletics Championships earlier this month. Her success in a championship record time of 22.18 seconds in cold and wet conditions underlined her return to form after her 100m European Championship gold earlier in June.

Now the target is to claim the biggest prize of all and become the first British woman to claim Olympic sprint gold in either the 100m or 200m.

Tommy Fleetwood

Golf star Fleetwood, who represented Team GB at Tokyo 2020, returns to Le Golf National, where he won the Open de France in 2017 and was part of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team in 2018. He will be joined in Team GB by 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick.

Max Whitlock

The gymnastics legend, 31, won two gold medals at Rio 2016 and successfully defended the pommel horse title in Japan three years ago. He had intended to quit after Tokyo, but his Olympic adventure has now extended into a 12th year following double bronze at London 2012.

Jade Jones

Double Olympic champion Jade Jones will spearhead Great Britain’s four-strong taekwondo challenge. The 31-year-old Welsh athlete, who won Olympic gold in 2012 and 2016, is set to equal Sarah Stevenson’s record of competing at four Olympic Games for Team GB’s taekwondo squad.

Adam Peaty

The 29-year-old icon of the pool added to his burgeoning medal tally with two goals and a silver at Tokyo 2020. He will cement his legacy if he wins more gold in Paris in what will probably be his final Olympics.

Helen Glover

Glover, one of the flag bearers at the opening ceremony along with Daley, won coxless pairs gold in both London and Rio. She came out of retirement in 2021 in a quest to add to her medal tally in Paris.
