On the morning of Thursday, May 8, 2025, on the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, Susanna Reid was joined by weather presenter Laura Tobin, who was surrounded by countless ceramic poppies while giving her forecast from the grounds of the Tower of London.
Susanna was reporting from outside Westminster Abbey ahead of a VE Day service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving, chatting to a variety of war veterans and their families.
Meanwhile back in the Good Morning Britain studio, Ed Balls was joined by Charlotte Hawkins as they chatted to World War 2 veterans and former military service-people, including The Traitors winner Harry Clarke.

As the episode of ITV’s Good Morning Britain (GMB) on Thursday, April 3, 2025, came to an end, Ed Balls broke the news that his co-host Susanna was taking a break from the show.

He said “we will see you in a couple of weeks’ time” — hinting that she was taking more than just the Easter break off.
After a short pause, Susanna replied: “See you in a couple of weeks.
“I am going to go and spend some time off.”
But fans of the former BBC Breakfast anchor needn’t worry, as she then promised: “I will be back, don’t fear.
“Good Morning Britain is of course back at 6am tomorrow, now it’s time to go to Lorraine.”
Her 10th anniversary at GMB falls in 2025 — and the experienced host had amassed over a decade at BBC Breakfast beforehand.
She previously exclusively told The Sun: “There’s something wonderful about the fact that once that alarm goes off, I’m hurtling towards six o’clock.
“I need to read all the briefs, to know what’s in all the newspapers and on every main news website.
“I’ve got to be up to date with X [formerly Twitter].
“I need to have my hair and make-up done, see what they’ve got for me [to wear] in wardrobe and I have to attend the morning meeting.
“There isn’t a spare minute, and I love that about the show.”
Why is Susanna Reid taking a break?
Susanna usually co-hosts GMB from Monday to Wednesday and alternate Thursdays.
She has not disclosed any specific reasons for her temporary hiatus.

But she did describe it as “time off”, so thankfully it seems all is well and Susanna is just having a small holiday from presenting duties.
When will Susanna Reid be back on GMB?
Susanna has confirmed that she will be returning to the show.
She also emphasised that her break is both brief and planned.
While an official return date is yet to be revealed, her co-host Ed said she’d be back on GMB “in a couple of weeks”.

Susanna regularly takes a break over the Easter holidays, with co-stars including Kate Garraway often standing in for her.
