Wheeler Dealers TV star Mike Brewer is ‘hoping’ criminals do not see him as a target after being affected by a second car theft incident in the past year.
The host of the popular classic car TV series stressed he was keeping his fingers crossed that being on the receiving end of scams didn’t become “a trend”.
Mike admitted he didn’t want criminals to think he was an “easy target” but revealed he was “keeping vigilant” after being caught out again last month.
Back in July, a fraudster paid for a Volkswagen Golf GTD with fake details and stolen card information despite Mike and his One Automotive team conducting thorough checks.
Another individual was charged for the model with Mike told to repay the money in full. The team also thought they had lost the car until it was recovered by police later down the line.
It comes just over a year since a fully restored Ford Fiesta Mk1 was stolen by thieves in a hotel car park just hours before its big reveal for a Wheeler Dealers episode.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk st the Silverstone Festival, Mike said: “I’m really aware of these things, I’m pretty vigilant now over everything I do in the future.
“I hope it isn’t a trend. ‘Oh Mike Brewer looks like an easy target, let’s go and rip him off’. I hope it isn’t a trend.
“We’ve had two incidents but if you think about it I’ve been presenting TV shows about motoring and buying and selling cars on tele now for 27 years.
“If I’ve had two incidents in 27 years, I think that’s okay.”
After the latest con, Mike stressed he would stop all remote sales at his One Automotive brand to better protect himself.
The TV host has also called for the introduction of more stringent ID checks to determine the legitimacy of potential buyers.
