QB Russell Wilson has signed a $10.5m deal with the New York Giants and RB Najee Harris has penned a $9.5m contract with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The departures don’t stop there as WR George Pickens has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
It means the Steelers are set to enter 2025 without their leading passer, rusher and receiver from the previous season.
Fans are concerned about the future of the franchise, with one saying: “We look like clowns. Pathetic.”
Another added: “What is going on in Pittsburgh?”
A third commented: “Throwing away the entire season.”
But others were positive, adding: “This is the Steelers chance to escape the limbo they’re stuck in, embrace a losing season so you can pick your future quarterback in the next Draft you’ll be hosting, it’s perfect for them in this picture.”
A second agreed: “Not necessarily a bad thing given the names.”
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said: “Look at what they did this offseason. Every important piece of their offense, besides Pat Freiermuth, is gone.
“George Pickens, their top receiver? Gone. Najee Harris, their starting running back? Gone. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, their two quarterbacks… they’re both gone.
“The Steelers clearly decided that this was not good enough. This was not good enough.
“They wanted to get better, changed out several key pieces of their personnel, and they will go about 2025 hoping for better results.”
The Steelers are now waiting for an answer from Aaron Rodgers as they look for a new quarterback.
