Wetherspoon announces new pub openings next month – is one coming to your area?

Wetherspoon, the renowned pub chain with establishments across the UK and Ireland, has announced plans to open new sites in England.

Two new pubs are set to open in England next month including The Lion & The Unicorn which is set to open in London’s Waterloo station on September 3.

According to Wethersoon’s site, the pub’s name comes from 1951’s Festival of Britain where more than eight million people paid to see the Dome of Discovery, which was then the world’s largest dome, the 90-metre Skylon Tower and The Lion and The Unicorn Pavilion.

The Lion & The Unicorn will create 70 jobs with customer opening times including Sunday to Thursday from 7.30am until midnight and, Friday and Saturday, 7.30am until 1am.

Visitors will also be able to dine in with food available until 11pm every day.

For those who are on the go and travelling through the station, you can grab a takeaway tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Wetherspoon has also announced a beer festival, which will take place between September 3 and September 15, in celebration of the pub opening.

The festival will include a range of cask beers, keg beers and craft cans from the capital and its surrounding areas.

The second pub to open its doors next month is The Grand Assembly in Marlow, Buckinghamshire on September 24.

According to the pub chain, the name of the pub has been chosen “to remember the ‘grand assemblies’ which were held in the former market house, situated next door”.

The website reads: “The market house was built in 1807, replacing a much older dilapidated wooden structure. The market itself occupied the open ground-floor area, with a fine assembly room above.

“It had a balcony and three large windows looking down High Street. Marlow’s ‘grand assemblies’ were held in the room, remaining a venue for public meetings and entertainment into the 1960s.”

The Grand Assembly will be open to customers from:

Sunday to Thursday, 7am until midnight

Friday and Saturday, 7am until 1am.

Again, food will be served until 11pm with children welcome into the pub with an accompanying adult until 9pm.
