West Ham in second bid for West Brom star Salomon Rondon after Marko Arnautovic exit

The Hammers are preparing to lose Marko Arnautovic who is closing in on a move to China and the Mirror claim they will turn to Rondon to replace him.

They are said to have had a £10million player-plus-cash deal turned down already but he could be available for around £12m.

Rondon, 29, spent last season at Newcastle on loan and won their player of the season as he bagged 12 Premier League goals.

They are also understood to be interested in taking him back to St James’ Park but the uncertainty currently surrounding the manager-less club means the Hammers could steal a march over them.

Wolves are also said to be keeping tabs on the Venezuela international but West Ham’s need for a striker is much greater.

As well as the impeding exit of Arnautovic, Andy Carroll has been released leaving Javier Hernandez as their only recognised senior striker who still figures in manager Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team plans.

Jordan Hugill has returned after a loan spell with Middlesbrough but he is not wanted and could be used as a makeweight in the Rondon deal if West Brom are interested in taking him.

If the Hammers miss out on Rondon, Maxi Gomez is another potential option who has long been linked with a move to east London.

The Celta Vigo striker, 22, came close to a move in the January window but a deal never materialised.

He has also been linked with Valencia and reports in Spain say they are close to agreeing terms with their La Liga rivals.

West Ham have made two signings so far this summer but are keen to continue spending.

Highly-rated attacking midfielder Pablo Formals arrived from Villarreal for a fee of around £25million.

They have also signed goalkeeper Roberto from Espanyol who will come in as back up to Lukas Fabianski.

Keeping hold of their best players remains their highest priority even if Arnautovic is leaving.

Declan Rice has been strongly linked with both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Meanwhile, United are understood to be keen on centre-back Issa Diop.
