Welcome home, CBS News: Back to New York, where it belongs

Late in 2019, CBS News published a story about itself.

It began ” ‘CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell’ will begin broadcasting from its new permanent home in Washington, D.C., starting Monday, Dec. 2.”

At the time, we lamented that move from New York, the center of the world, where Walter Cronkite sat in the anchor chair from the years of Jack Kennedy to Ronald Reagan. The other broadcast networks, NBC and ABC, maintained their New York-based newscasts. Fox News has always been run from here and even CNN, although born in Atlanta, now calls New York home.

It turns out we were right. CBS from D.C. wasn’t the same and it trailed its broadcast competitors. Now the “CBS Evening News” is returning home. Welcome back to the big city.
