Vladimir Putin's decimated troop numbers exposed as Russia loses 1,740 in 24 hours

In a devastating blow to Vladimir Putin’s military ambitions, Russia has suffered its highest single-day casualty count since the onset of the Ukraine invasion in 2022. A loss of 1,740 troops in just 24 hours has been reported by Ukrainian sources.

The toll of losses extends beyond human lives, with Ukraine also claiming the destruction of 30 tanks and 42 armoured vehicles in the same period. Despite the difficulty in obtaining accurate statistics due to the quality of information from both sides, Ukraine’s armed forces have asserted that Russia has incurred a staggering total of 484,030 casualties throughout the course of the war.

This claim aligns with recent estimates from the UK Ministry of Defence, which suggested that Russia’s cumulative casualties likely exceed 465,000.

Even by Western assessments, the scale of Russian losses is immense. French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné has hinted at a figure nearing 500,000, while the BBC has confirmed the deaths of at least 50,000 Russian soldiers.

Russia’s last official update on casualties, provided in September 2022, indicated a far lower figure of 6,000 soldiers killed—an assertion starkly contradicted by subsequent evidence.

The intensity of the conflict shows no signs of abating. Russia’s recent advancements near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, have underscored the continued ferocity of the fighting.

Despite facing formidable resistance, Moscow’s forces have reportedly seized control of nine villages in the vicinity of Kharkiv, signalling a strategic shift in the conflict’s dynamics.

In response to the escalating hostilities, Ukraine’s military leadership remains resolute in its defence of the nation.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukraine’s military chief, said that defensive efforts are robust, adding: “Units of the defence forces are fighting fierce defensive battles. The attempts of the Russian invaders to break through our defences have been stopped.”

However, challenges persist for Ukrainian forces, including shortages of critical supplies and ammunition.

Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov highlighted the adversary’s strategy of attempting to stretch the front line by launching attacks in diverse directions, posing ongoing challenges for Ukrainian defenders.
