Ukraine believes the ability to do so allows it to target Russian army logistical centres supplying troops on the frontline as well as enabling them to target Russian morale through strikes on large urban areas.
The western supplied missiles have a range of hundreds of kilometres, allowing them to travel further, quicker, and be more deadly than the drones that Ukraine currently uses to attack Russia to limited effect.
Ukraine has been victim to dozens of similar attacks on its cities.
