The Day-Use reservation system will begin on May 19 for the Greenbrier State Park and Sandy Point State Park in Maryland.
All visitors to the park and the beach must apply for a permit, or they will not be allowed in.
“The goal of this new day use reservation system is to make our parks more welcoming and accessible to all,” Maryland Park Service Director Angela Crenshaw told local ABC outlet WMAR.
“By allowing visitors to plan ahead, we’re helping families make the most of their time outdoors — with less stress and more confidence that they’ll have a great day in our state parks.”
The reservation system will be mandatory on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend.
The reservations must be made before entering the park, as no same-day drive-up access is allowed.
Visitors can pay for their reservations online.
The fee for a day pass is $3 per person, and it can be edited up until 8 a.m. the day before the scheduled visit.
Once park visitors arrive at the beach, they can scan a QR code to show their proof of reservation.
Not only does Greenbriar Park offer guests beach access, but more adventurous travelers can opt to camp on its campgrounds.
The state park in the Appalachian Mountains has a 42-acre man-made lake and eleven miles of hiking trails for guests to enjoy.
Campers can pick from one of the 164 campsites in the park.
Each campsite has fresh water and a bathhouse for a more comfortable experience.
Campsites also have a table, fire ring, and parking area.
Visitors with pets can camp on one of the two pet-friendly camping loops, and those camping in an RV can opt for the electric camping loop.
Camping also requires a reservation fee.
