Cleveland Police havs issued an urgent warning after seven people were rushed to hospital after taking suspected tainted sleeping pills, with one man reportedly dead after consuming the drug.
The force has alerted drug users about a potentially contaminated batch of Zopiclone, following seven adults being rushed to North Tees General Hospital. The patients fell ill after ingesting the drug, according to the force.
One man has died after taking the medication, police confirmed on Saturday. Zopiclone is a prescription drug used to treat insomnia but can be habit-forming.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “On Friday 28 June police received reports of seven adults having been taken to North Tees General Hospital. They are all believed to be suffering the effects of a drug called Zopiclone.
“Officers are warning drug users of a potentially contaminated batch which could cause significant illness or lead to an overdose. Officers are also investigating the death of one man who is believed to have taken Zopiclone.”
