Unilever, the giant company behind Marmite and Dove soap, has confirmed plans to cut around 7,500 jobs worldwide. This big decision is part of a plan to save nearly £684 million over the next three years.
The firm explained that most of the jobs affected are office-based roles. They are doing this because they want to put more money into technology.
They think this will help them do their work better and save cash.
They said they will chat with workers about these changes but didn’t share where the job cuts will happen.
These job losses are likely to happen in the next two years.
At the moment, Unilever has about 128,000 workers all over the world and around 6,000 of them are based in the UK.
The boss of Unilever, Hein Schumacher said: “Under the growth action plan we have committed to do fewer things better, and with greater impact.”
“The changes we are announcing today will help us accelerate that plan.”
He also added: “We are committed to carrying out our productivity programme in consultation with employee representatives, and with respect and care for those of our people who are impacted.”
