UK gardening alert as gardeners told to wait to mow the lawn post-heatwave

[ad_1]

As temperatures rise yet again this summer in the UK, gardening enthusiasts gave a key tip for fellow gardeners, advising them to refrain from mowing the lawn immediately after a heatwave.

Specialists from Rated People have sounded an alarm that the impulse to tidy your lawn following intense heat could be disastrous for your carefully-tended grass.

A spokesperson stated: “Extreme heat can quickly kill the healthy-looking lawn you have been maintaining since the start of the year.”

The wise counsel from these gardening experts is to abstain from cutting the grass during excessively hot periods – despite the allure of beautifying your garden this weekend.

In factm it’s better to let the lawn recover from the searing temperatures and possible drought before giving it a trim.

The professionals recommend waiting for “cooler temperatures” and ideally some “rainfall” before firing up the lawnmower.

After meticulously scrutinising the most recent Met Office summaries and future weather forecasts, they suggest UK inhabitants wait until next week before commencing their next lawn cut.

Sunday (August 11) and Monday (August 12) are predicted to see the highest temperatures, with southern England, eastern England, and the Midlands possibly exceeding 30C.

Other regions of the country could see temperatures climb into the high-20Cs, reports the Mirror.

Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth explained on the organisation’s YouTube channel that an area of low pressure will “clear out through to the south and east of the UK through Monday evening and into Tuesday (August 13)”.

This will result in a “so it’s going to be a fairly short-lived hot spell – temperatures will likely peak on Monday”.

Other weather models show a “less-developed area of low pressure”, which would mean the “warmer and more humid air would hang around for longer”.

Shuttleworth continued: “However, either way, the heat and humidity is expected to build for a time across the UK on Sunday and Monday, we could see temperatures rise into the low-30Cs.”
