UK drivers urged to do one thing after pothole damage amid risk of 'major' issues

Walsall Wood Tyre and Service added: “Hit a curb or pothole recently? It might be time to get your wheels aligned!

“Don’t let minor impacts lead to major tyre or suspension issues.”

According to the RAC, motorists with a keen eye should be able to identify the symptoms of misaligned wheels.

Common clues include uneven tyre wear, vehicles which pull to one side, off-centre steering, vibrations and squealing tyres.

Wheel alignments are quick procedures which ensure that all four wheels meet the dimensions specified by the manufacturer.

The process can cost up to £250 to complete but many garages will offer a free check to see if models have any issues.

Walsall Wood mechanic Craig stressed that having the correct wheel alignment would ensure motorists could “control” the vehicle better while behind the wheel.

Craig said: “Wheel alignment is there both to extend the longevity of your tyres and to improve traction on the road.”

He added: “We just want to make sure the steering geometry is all absolutely spot on before we send it out the door. This way we know the car is not going to be pulling to one side, it’s not going to veer off under braking.

“If it loses traction and the traction control has to kick in the system are going to be able to control the car a lot better because the geometry is better.

“And most importantly those lovely expensive Continental Tyres are going to last that little bit longer on there which in turn is going to save you pennies.”
