THE TV BAFTAS is guaranteed to deliver glamour, glitz and a lot of chaos – from a red carpet medical emergency to unforgettable live moments and segments of the awards being axed.
The ceremony returns on Sunday (May 11) at the Royal Festival Hall, and you never know what to expect on the night.
Towie win

The cast of Towie were not expecting to win a Bafta back in 2011.
They took home the YouTube Audience prize which was the only award of the evening voted for by the public.
Sam Faiers and Amy Childs, amongst other cast and crew, were the only cast members at the ceremony and both took to the stage with joy and excitement.
Some viewers were disappointed that Towie won a Bafta.
One user took to X, formerly known as Twitter and wrote: “Things that deserve BAFTA awards more than TOWIE/MIC: a 15 minute close up of a toenail, a fox regurgitating Nigel Farage’s tummy mud and Jam.”
Another added: “I mean no disrespect to anyone here but how the heck do we live in a world where #TOWIE has a Bafta.”
“Three most ridiculous things about 2011: Big Brother creator knighted, TOWIE got BAFTA, McDonalds sponsors 2012 Olympic games,” penned a third.
The BAFTAS stopped the YouTube award in 2018.
Royal digs

In 2018, Bafta host Sue Perkins was slammed over her poor jokes.
She took numerous digs at the Royal family, one which saw her sharing: “What a year we’ve had. A royal baby born.
“I’m not saying there was pressure on Kate to look perfect afterwards but apparently she couldn’t hear if it was a boy or a girl over the sound of the hair dryer.”
Watchers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their complaints about Sue.
One user wrote: “Sue Perkins looks/sounds like she’s really enjoying herself.
“Shame the same can’t be said for the audience and viewers. #SelfIndulgent.”
Whilst another added: “Not funny at all.”
“I love Sue Perkins but her monologue was cringe. That kate middleton hair dryer joke! #BAFTATV,” penned a third.
Strictly joke gone wrong

In 2019, Graham Norton returned to host the Baftas after Sue’s disaster.
However, this time, one celebity in particular didn’t take too kindly to his joke.
Graham took a dig at comedian Seann Walsh whilst Strictly host Tess Daley was in the crowd.
Referencing Seann’s kiss with his pro partner Katya Jones, Graham said: “A more forensic and detailed interrogation of times, dates and mobile phone data hasn’t been seen since that time Seann Walsh got home late from Strictly practice.”
Former dance partners Katya and Seann found themselves embroiled in a massive scandal when they were photographed kissing.
And Tess appeared unimpressed by the joke. She could be seen with a disapproving expression as the camera panned to her.
Both were in relationships at the time, with Seann dating Rebecca Humphries and Katya married to Neil Jones.
Swearing mishap

Actress and Screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge was granted the award for Best Drama for her hit series Killing Eve in 2019.
Phoebe turned the air blue by swearing on stage and declaring “F**k” at her win.
However, due to a 75-minute delay in the TV broadcast, the BBC were able to bleep out that swear word.
She then happily accepted the award with her cast and crew.
Wrong winner announced

Hollywood actress Carey Mulligan was once mistakenly called out as a winner.
This happened when CODA actor Troy Kotsur took to the stage with a sign language interpreter to present the award for Best Supporting Actress.
The winner was in fact Kerry Condon and was corrected shortly after.
Kerry then took to the stage to accept her award.
MAFS star collapses on red carpet

Married At First Sight UK star Ella Morgan sparked concern after collapsing just moments before the show began.
Medics were rushed to the scene outside London’s Royal Festival Hall after the reality star fainted during interviews on the red carpet.
Photographers and press watched on in shock, and paramedics treated her on-site before she was helped to her feet and later confirmed she was okay, though understandably shaken.
She told The Sun after the incident: “I feel much better now. I hadn’t eaten all day and with the heat, excitement and nerves it just got too much.”
Bobby Brazier snog

Not long after bouncing back from her red carpet scare, Ella surprised everyone again – this time with a very public kiss with EastEnders actor and former Strictly star Bobby Brazier.
The pair locked lips in front of cameras as the afterparty buzzed into full swing. The kiss came completely out of the blue, and while neither have confirmed whether it was a romantic moment or a bit of fun, it definitely got fans talking.
