Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was left with his head in his hands after he conceded a disastrous own goal at Euro 2024.
The 26-year-old was left helpless when Samet Akaydin’s back-pass was wayward and dribbled past him and into the back of his own net, despite the best efforts of his Turkish teammates.
The calamity handed Portugal a 2-0 lead at the Signal Iduna Park in a match where victory would book their spot in the knockout stages of the competition.
Akaydin received the ball inside his own half after Portugal launched a long ball forward in the hope of playing Cristiano Ronaldo through on goal. However, the pass looked to release the Portuguese skipper into the channel, despite the Al-Nassr forward remaining central and wanting the ball in that area.
After the pass, Ronaldo frustratedly threw his arms into the air in a tantrum-esque fashion, though his frustrations turned to elation after he watched Akaydin take a chance in attempting to play the ball back to his goalkeeper.
