TUI adds a new winter route from the UK – 30 years after the last direct flight between the cities

TUI has added a new winter route between two cities, 30 years after the last direct flight.

At the end of 2025, keen skiers will be able to travel directly from Cardiff to Salzburg in Austria for winter breaks.

Starting on 20 December 2025, TUI will begin a weekly flight as part of Crystal Ski Holidays.

The flight will leave every Saturday until the final return flight from Salzburg on Saturday 7 March 2026.

A statement from the airport said: “Crystal Ski is launching a new Cardiff to Salzburg route this winter. Fly out 20th Dec 2025 and hit Austria’s top slopes hassle-free.”

The head of Crystal Ski Holidays added: “We are delighted to add a new TUI charter flight route from Cardiff to Salzburg into our Winter 2025-26 season programme.”

It’s not the first time that passengers have been able to fly directly from Cardiff to Salzburg – but the route was scrapped 32 years ago.

It’s not just Salzburg either, the upcoming winter routes will fly from Cardiff to 24 ski resorts in Austria.

These included the popular winter sport towns of Zell am See, Mayrhofen, and Kitzbühel.

You can go to a range of impressive ski resorts too like Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm, and KitzSk.

One of the Crystal Ski Holidays offers a seven-night trip from Cardiff to Kitzbühel staying at the Bio Hotel Bruggerhof from £1,210 per person.

The Cardiff to Salzburg route isn’t the only new route set up by TUI.

The tour operator confirmed a new flight route will operate from Cardiff Airport to Fuerteventura in December 2025.

The winter sun route is a first from the airport for TUI, who operate a number of other flights from the Welsh airport.

The route will also start on Saturday 20 December 2025.

The tour operator hasn’t yet confirmed how many flights a week it will operate, however it will continue into summer 2026.

The second-largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura, is often a winter sun destination due to its year-round mild weather.

As part of TUI’s expansion at Cardiff Airport, they are also doubling its flights from Gran Canaria this winter, with a second weekly flight.

And Tenerife flights will increase from three a week to four a week as well.

Plus, the other TUI route from Belfast International Airport to one of the most affordable Caribbean islands.

And here are the additional routes that TUI has launched for this year that leave from airports all over the UK to destinations like Corfu and Lanzarote.
