Trump will be in ‘payback mode’ if he wins in 2020: Steve Bannon

America can expect “pure Trump off the chain” if the president is re-elected in 2020, says former White House strategist Steve Bannon.

In a wide-ranging interview with Politico, Bannon said that a second term for the president would mean “four years of Donald Trump in payback mode.”

And Bannon said odds are that Trump stays in office because no one in the Democratic field could “take on Trump one-on-one” among the current Democratic candidates.

“You’re not going to beat Trump with polices, right?” Bannon observed.

“Elizabeth Warren’s has an incredibly detailed and probably the most well thought-through set of policy prescriptions, and they keep coming every day. She’s at, what, 7 percent, 8 percent?”

A Saint Anselm College phone survey of 698 New Hampshire voters released on April 10 showed Warren’s popularity at 9 percent.

Bannon didn’t dismiss the idea of Hillary Clinton running again in 2020, saying if Democrats “don’t think that they’ve got somebody that can beat him, the vampire is going to be in the bullpen.”

“She did get 63 million votes,” he added.

Bannon spoke to Politico’s Ben Schreckinger on Tuesday night.
