In a Truth Social post, Trump described Pirro as a powerful crusade for the victims of crime.
“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” he said.
Pirro, 73, has previously served as a judge and district attorney in Westchester County, New York.
She joined Fox News in 2006 where she was the host of the show Justice with Judge Jeanine for more than a decade.
Pirro has appeared on the roundtable opinion show The Five since 2022.
Fox News chiefs have wished Pirro well in her new role.
“Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure,” they said.
“We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.”
