President Trump on Monday blamed Democrats and their accomplices “the Fake News Media!” for pressuring him to remove his Doral golf course in South Florida as host of next year’s G-7 summit of world leaders.
“Doral in Miami would have been the best place to hold the G-7, and free, but too much heat from the Do Nothing Radical Left Democrats & their Partner, the Fake News Media!,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “I’m surprised that they allow me to give up my $400,000 Plus Presidential Salary! We’ll find someplace else!”
Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney announced that the administration had selected Trump National Doral as the site of next June’s summit during a raucous press briefing last Thursday.
Explaining the selection process, the White House whittled down a list of 12 possible locations to four finalists before eventually deciding on Doral.
“And it became apparent at the end of that process that Doral was, by far and away – far and away – the best physical facility for this meeting,” he said.
But in the face of mounting criticism that he could be profiting off the presidency and violating the Constitution, Trump ditched the plan in a tweet Saturday night.
“I thought I was doing something very good for our Country by using Trump National Doral, in Miami, for hosting the G-7 Leaders,” he wrote in the tweet and went on to describe the resort’s amenities.
