Travis Kelce sticks by brother Jason after Penn State heckler incident

Travis Kelce is sticking by big brother Jason after the latter returned a homophobic slur hurled by a heckler and threw it to the ground.

Video making the rounds online shows a man outside Penn State’s Beaver Stadium calling out to the former offensive lineman, 37, and using a slur in reference to 35-year-old Travis’ widely publicized romance with Taylor Swift.

The elder Kelce then grabbed the man’s phone, slammed it to the ground and hurled the slur right back at him, according to additional footage circulating online.

“I know it’s weighing on you, brother. That s–t sucks,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, said on Wednesday’s episode of the athletes’ “New Heights” podcast. “You shouldn’t feel this much. … The real situation is you had some f–king clown come up to you and talk about your family and you reacted in a way that was defending your family.”

Travis said the circulation of the clips, as well as the “scrutiny and media view,” have turned the incident into “a bigger situation than I think what it really is,” but that his brother can use the situation as an opportunity to “learn from and own.”

“You speaking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world,” said Travis.

Jason apologized during ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” this week, telling viewers and fellow commentators he was “not happy with anything that took place.

“I’m not proud of it,” he said. “In a heated moment, I decided to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing.”

“You don’t choose hate,” Travis echoed his brother. “That’s just not who you are.”

Penn State University Police and Public Safety is now investigating the incident, which has already been identified as involving criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, in their daily crime log, a spokesperson told The Athletic.
