Travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar, 27, dead after falling 300 feet into gorge

Travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar is dead after slipping and suffering a fatal fall at an Indian gorge, where she was filming content for social media.

The 27-year-old chartered accountant was working on an Instagram Reel Tuesday on a trip with seven friends when she slipped and plummeted roughly 300 feet, near the Kumbhe Waterfall, about 80 miles outside of her home base in Mumbai, The Economic Times reported Thursday.

Kamdar’s friends notified authorities of what had happened and immediately began a search, according to The Times of India.

“She fell on the hard, slippery patch of rocks around 300ft into the valley and couldn’t be spotted initially,” rescuer Shantanu Kuveskar told the outlet. “She was sent up using a stretcher attached to rappelling ropes. Six rescuers climbed down the hill, while another 50 assisted atop the hillock.”

Kamdar, a connoisseur of monsoon tourism, was reportedly responsive during the roughly six-hour rescue operation and while on her way to the hospital, but was put on ventilator support. She was later declared dead at Mangaon Taluka Hospital, per The Times of India.

A self-described “detective for travel, luxury finds, cafés, itineraries, tips and feels,” Kamdar last posted to Instagram on Monday, when she shared with her 292,000 followers five places they could visit during monsoons.

Following news of her death, fans shared their shock and grief in the comments section, with fellow travel influencer Aakanksha Monga remembering Kamdar as “one of the kindest people” she knew.

“I can’t believe it. This is deeply saddening and has kept me up all night,” Monga wrote. “Please, let’s focus on praying for her soul to rest in peace and remember the joy and positivity she brought to our lives. Stop commenting on the ‘reel’ part, we were not there, don’t amplify misinformation.”

“She was an extremely responsible traveler,” echoed food influencer Shreya Sanghvi. “It was an accident, could’ve happened to anyone. … She was a beautiful human. Her work, her passion, her story and her, should be honored at this time.”
