Tottenham star thinks Ange Postecoglou isn't his biggest fan and 'doesn't trust' him

Tottenham winger Bryan Gil reportedly believes Ange Postecoglou does not trust him. Gil has started only two Premier League matches this season and in one of those, against Manchester City, was brought off at half-time after losing the ball six times in 45 minutes.

The 23-year-old has not started a league match since that game on December 3 and has only been in the match-day squad for one of their last five top-flight contests. Gil has racked up just 221 minutes all season – less than under Antonio Conte last term despite spending half the campaign out on loan.

The four-cap Spain international rejoined Sevilla on loan for the second half of the season but has been back in north London this year. Now, reports claim that he does not feel trusted by Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Estadio Deportivo say Gil remained at Spurs beyond the recent January transfer window in order to prove himself to the club. It is said he has grown tired of going out on loan.

The versatile forward also spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Valencia before last year’s stint at Sevilla. He joined Spurs from Sevilla, with whom he won last season’s Europa League, in July 2021 for £21million with Erik Lamela going to Spain in return.

Since returning from Sevilla in the summer, Gil has not convinced Spurs’ staff and the player himself feels Postecoglou does not trust him after his lack of playing time. With his contract expiring in 2026, this summer appears the right time for a parting of ways.

Gil called Sevilla “the club of my life” 14 months ago when re-joining, and it is claimed Seville would be his preferred destination if he leaves Spurs permanently this summer. The player is said to be eager to return to La Liga.

Fiorentina, Brighton and Feyenoord all had loan proposals rejected by Gil at the turn of the year but he is now ready to depart. The report claims a fee of £5.9m (€7m) could be enough to buy the Spaniard as that is what Spurs were ready to sell him for in January.

Real Sociedad are a club who remain interested in Gil after being unable to make a move financially in January. Copa del Rey finalists Mallorca, managed by Javier Aguirre who coached the player at Leganes previously, are another potential club who could bid.

Gil’s preference would be Sevilla although they will not have European football to play next term. The Andalusian outfit have struggled and sit 14th in Spain’s top tier currently, just five points above the relegation zone.

He said of Sevilla last year: “I arrived here at the age of nine from Barbate. I was very small and at that time I did not have time to study and go and come back, so I trained once with the team and, with permission from the club, only came on game day.

“For me, Sevilla is the club that has seen me grow and where I have been happy. It is the club of my life. The affection that both my family and I have for this club is incredible.”
