Top 10 most popular baby names of 2023 revealed

The top 10 most popular baby names of 2023 were announced Friday by the Social Security Administration, with Liam and Olivia ranking No. 1 for the fifth year in a row.

Noah took the second place spot among boys’ names, also for the fifth consecutive year, with Mateo being the only new addition to the list for either gender. See the full top 10 below:

Other names that didn’t crack the top 10, but are quickly rising up the ranks, include Izael, Chozen and Eiden for boys, and Kaeli, Alitzel and Emryn for girls. The agency noted some of the names’ connections to popular culture.

Chozen was a notable character from the Netflix show “Cobra Kai,” while the growing popularity of Eiden may very well be linked to content creator Wyatt Eiden’s 1.6 billion views on TikTok.

Kaeli, the fastest-rising girl’s name, also has a connection to social media. Kaeli is the name of popular YouTube and TikTok star Kaeli McEwen, also known as Kaeli Mae.

The SSA has made a tradition of releasing the data around Mother’s Day each year, to celebrate all the mothers across the U.S.

A full list of the top 1,000 baby names, as well as the top names for all previous years dating back to 1879, are available on the SSA website.

The agency plans to release state-by-state data of last year’s most popular baby names next Thursday.
